Error

I was looking at the post I did for removing cosmoline and I noticed that I misspelled the link for the site that has the all the info for getting this stuff off of your weapon of choice it is www.surplusrifles.com. Why did I even bother posting this information anyways, nobody reads this fucking blog anyways.

Since no one reads this thing. Obama is a jackass, he is the devil that will take all my shit he is the reason for long distance shooting. He is also the reason the secret service conducts ducking exercises. The dude should change his name to Snap-on, Matco or Craftsman since he is such a tool or better yet a tool box. The dude has no original ideas such as "yo, hey! lets create a million man youth brigade". Hitler is rolling in his grave on that one. Not in my life time has anyone referred to the president as "the one", what do they think this guy is? the Highlander or Neo from the Matrix. Is this mofo gonna give his inaugural speech and then blast off into the sky like Neo. The secret service wishes he was Neo from the Matrix for other reasons. The one my ass. By this time next year I will be living in the mountains talking to bears and typing my blog manually the old fashion way on paper since there would be no good Internet so it would no longer be called a blog it would be called a book or a journal. And I get a feeling that the mountain I will be calling home is gonna get crowded as fuck since there is this concept called other people and they will be doing the same and all I can say is "Back off biotch, this is my corner of the creek". Another reason to head for the hills is that I am a gun owner public enemy number one. Look ma I'm on top of the world. Oh and he even wants me to quit reloading, I have no problem turning in my unserialized ammo (one well placed shot at a time). What next, oh you want to put my DNA on the ammunition alright give that box of cartridges and I'll step out back and flog the dolphin for yah. I can see Winchesters or Remington's new add for these things "there is no shot like a money shot" gives a new meaning to the term "Hot loads". The country is gone to hell and the one is gonna lead us further into the rabbit hole.

Well I am not going to quit reloading, not going to give up my arms, not gonna let you arrest me just because, not gonna let some us troops harass me at check points, not gonna let some youth brigade punks tell me what to do, not gonna be told you cannot camp there, not gonna have some dickless, shitless, brainless, thoughtless, sack of monkeyshit leader tell me how to invest and spend my hard earned cash who does he think we are Great Britain holy shit where is the Tylenol.

Snow day.

Last week was fun here in my little village in Oregon. Since it snowed really bad the railroad called me up and asked if I would come to work and shovel snow out of switches and so I accepted the mission and then the phone exploded. As for today it looks like I am snowed in again with very few things to do (when your poor your options are limited) so I decided to finish scrubbing out and cleaning my rifles that I took to the range before the snow flew. First on the list to be cleaned is my 91/30 mosin nagant followed by the M95 Steyr (Austrian) then the Yugo Mauser and bringing up the rear would be the awesome Marlin guide gun in 45-70. Now that thing is a hoot to shoot and it is small enough that I take it hiking and camping with me all the time. You can never me too careful these days.

Cosmoline yummmy.

Tis the season when you go to the local gun or sporting good store and purchase a new firearm. Some of you will go out and purchase a surplus military firearm and learning how to clean that stuff that looks like grease or sometimes if it has been on the rifle since the end of the second world war, hard varnish looking stuff. The stuff described above is called cosmoline a preservative that helps prevent corrosion and it is not just used in guns it can be found all over the place where machinery and equipment may sit idle for long times in harsh environments such as ocean going vessels. My first encounter with this stuff was in the navy when I went to pull a part out of storage and it was covered in this crap.

The main thing when you first get your rifle is to try to take it apart as best you can or as far as the cosmoline will let you. I have a 303. British lee enfield and I had a very hard time taking it apart because the cosmoline hardened. I have heard of many ways to take this stuff off such as using gasoline or diesel (dangerous but works), commercially available cleaners ($$$), and hot boiling water. I like the hot boiling water method since it is cheap and that is the whole point of me buying surplus rifles, but if you don't have the time or will power to clean the cosmoline off of your rifle you can always take it to a gunsmith and he'll probably charge you quite a bit if you find one that hates to work on old military rifles (I found out once). What I did to clean my rifle is that I built a small camp fire behind the house and used half of a 55 gallon metal drum to boil the water in plus some beer (for me). Then I took the rifle apart into different components such as bolt, barrel, stock and small metal parts. I then soaked the barrel in the water for a little bit while I put the smaller parts into metal baskets. After lowering the baskets in the water I pulled the barrel out and started to scrub the areas that still had cosmoline in it with a fine tooth brush. I wear thick rubber gloves since I do not like to get this stuff on my hands and it helps protect them from the hot water. It will take awhile to clean these parts since this stuff gets everywhere you think it wouldn't just be patient and consume beer. This little task last me all afternoon but hey what else is there to do and I am saving money. AS for the stock I just cover it with clean cloths and take and old clothes iron and try to steam out the greasy stuff. From what I learned not all of it will ever come out at least for me it didn't but I liked the results. Ohhh and do not forget to oil all the parts that you soked in the water to get the grease off. If you are still sober put rifle back together and admire your handy work.

If doing it this way ain't your thing then I suggest going to militarysurplusrifle.com and check their article on getting this crap off of your weapon of choice. They have some cool ones like using steam or if you are into solvents they have a recipe to make your own gun cleaner called Reds gun cleaner and it is cheap to make too. Whatever you do keep safe, fun and enjoy your new /old rifle. Beer is optional, but really helps.

window shopping.

I was window shopping back in my home town in North Idaho last weekend (sister was getting hitched) and decided to stop by some gun shops and see what was going on. All I can say if you like AK SK or AR you are shit out of luck when trying to find a good deal. The gun shop owners tell me that if I want an AK or SK that I have to buy one now this very minute cause the price will go up. So I looked at the prices and ooooh my god are you kidding me over four hundred for an SKS or almost a thousand for a AK ( not a true AK). I like these rifles but that is way too much for what they are or are not. The AK I was looking at was not really an AK, but to me just US made knock off of the real thing and who knows what kind of parts or workmanship went into building this thing. Then the shop owner was like well what would you pay for a AK-47. I thought hard back to the times I was working for Uncle Sam and was stomping around the world and every where else in the world these things were going for dirt cheap and I mean dirt cheap. So I told him forty dollars and he bout shit his pants "what makes you think forty dollars is a fare price!" he said. I went on to tell him that I could probably pick up a fully auto true Russian AK-47 for less than one hundred dollars in some of the countries that I have been in and that what makes you think that a 10 year old in Africa who totes one around had the thousands of US dollars to buy his, he probably got it for the price of a few chickens. He thought about it and said "true, but this ain't Africa". So I am pretty content with what I have for now. If the shit hits the fan and I need to move out well I got my trusty lever guide gun chambered in 45-70 to survive with and take down nasty UN troops or one of the many surplus bolt action rifles I have acquired they did the job before and can do it again. But unless the prices become realistic on these semi auto rifles like the AK then I would rather spend my money on something worth it like a M1 Garand fitted with a Douglas barrel. If General Patton endorsed it you couldn't go wrong.

Missing some salt.

When I look at the drab cold environment that I live in now it sometimes makes me wish I was back on a tin can taking in the fresh air the warm sun and clear skies of the south pacific. Then I start to hear needle guns and the chipping off of the rust and working parties and the never ending process of painting the darn thing and I am swooshed back to reality.

Nice one.

So if Illinois isn't messed up enough already with the CAGE Nazis coming to your house and demanding your firearms by order of the son of the mob boss mayor, the Governor was caught selling seats for the Senate and his ass is off to prison or at least they think he is off to prison unless his buddy Ol' OB gets him pardoned. Hey maybe since this Governor seems "connected" maybe he has or can obtain Obamas birth certificate.

Overheard.....

So I was at the local gun spot just hanging out and being a total parasite when a couple walked in and decided to look at some handguns for self defense. They didn't look like the type to want to own hand guns. I imagined then holding up protest signs saying free Attica, But you can never tell. Anyways the husband wanted a 45 cal handgun which I thought was perfect for self defense, but the wife chimed in and said that it was too big to carry all the time (which is a good point if you are really trying to conceal it) and that she didn't want something that would kill just wound. Ssssssssccccccrrrrreeeeeccchhhhh stop the truck what did that bitch say, wound? WTF mate. This is the problem with America today. We are too politically correct we are afraid of hurting some body's or some other countries feelings. This shit has got to stop now. If you take a few modern Americans and time warp their asses back to lets say the late 1800's or even early 1900's there is a good chance not one of them would make it a few days add some trips to the local saloon the odds just greatly went down. You see we try to talk our way out of every situation which makes us non violent, but there are times (these days almost all of the time) that the only way to get out of a situation is serve up a steaming hot dish of whoop ass. I know it requires fishing deep into the gene pool for that long lost we take no BS gene that was supposedly put away in the closet after the west was settled and finally thrown out in the late sixties by the hippies peace movement. We need to quit being wussies and the rest of the world will take us seriously (who cares about the rest of the world anyway). It is okay to be peaceful and fair, but too much of it can kill us as individuals and a nation. What I mean is other people can sense your willingness not to fight ( like some predators do) and use that to gauge their attack same goes for a foreign country, they can sense a nations willingness not too fight and use that to their advantage. We need to become tough again. Oh as for the gun the couple was shopping for they ended up buying a 25 cal handgun. It was like watching a train wreck in slow motion.

Fed up.

A few days ago I was having a conversation with my parents back home when the subject of me owning firearms was brought up. You see I used to move around a bit and so I kept the collection and ammo for them at the folks place since it is the safest place for them. Since then I have my own place and so I have them with me now, but I did say to them that I might have to move around again and so the gun issue came up. Mother said that she does not want the guns in her house for fear of the police breaking down her door because of them. I looked at her when she said that expecting it to be a joke but it was not. Kind of unusual behavior from them on something like this since as long as I can remember they were pro government even when the government was screwing my parents in taxes on their paychecks and the family was barely hanging in there. I used to tell them that our rights are slowly being taken away (this was in the early 1990's) by doing it one little right at a time, you know first it was no smoking in malls then it was restaurants then the bars and now whole states ban smoking in all public places. I am a non smoker, but using the smoking thing as an example. I remember telling my parents even until recently that they should have supplies on hand in case of an emergency such as power outage, big forest fire or being snowed in. I got the are you fucking nuts look and then they proceed to tell me that the city or government will take care of them. Ever since the patriot act was passed their mood has shifted. Now they know their asses can go to jail for no reason. And as for the guns I said "mom dad look who is gonna know they are here and since was it a crime to have them" "Well, the neighbors or somebody could get wind of your collection and that would put us in danger" she said. Then she said "I just don't want to provoke the police anymore than we have to" then I dropped the bomb of the conversation by saying to my parents "If you were alive in the 1930's and lived in Europe you would've made good Jews". It's gonna be a shitty Christmas.

On to the Government thing, we need to stand up and quit taking this shit like we are some little bitch. The government works for us not us for them we elect them into office and so we can kick them out of office. The Government are the employees of the US citizen and no boss I know of takes shit from an employee. How dare they pick apart the Constitution at their own leisure. They have no right to pick it apart, the Constitution is the peoples tool to keep the Government in check. How dare they pass bills and legislation that will greatly affect us without our approval first, for example the bailout or the biggest heist in U.S. history. The amount is still growing cause nobody read the bill and so the president of the Federal Reserve is doing whatever they like with the cash they are printing and the banks are keeping it for themselves. The only bailout money the taxpayer will see is the money that they take from his paycheck. The Government is like this big bloated pig and it is standing on the backs of the taxpayer and I wonder when the back will break. What is gonna happen then when the back does break? I hear different things from different people, but the conversations always end in where can I get some cheap ammunition for my AR-15 or AK-47 (they know I like guns). Until earlier this year I had a TV, but when I moved down here to Oregon it broke so I never got another one and so the only entertainment that I have is the Internet and that is where I found people like Alex Jones and Mark Koernke to name a few. At first I was like these people are weird then one day I sat in my quiet apartment and thought of all the things that I used to be able to do and now are considered illegal, the list was long. When I volunteer at the local museum I talk to the younger crowd and realize that the education system is done for, these kids know nothing thanks to the government. The only thing they do know is how to spend money and who is who on MTV's the Hills. I asked one kid about the first world war and he got it confused with Vietnam or Korea, My god. I am waiting for that knock on the door because I didn't register a weapon and the local gestapo found out about it and wants to detain me for a few decades and I ask myself what will I do when something like that happens what will I do? and the answer is I do not know. I could chicken out and give in and then have plenty of time to think about it behind bars or start a firefight and possibly get killed in the process. Every revolution starts off with a bang.

Poor man dinners.

I noticed that I am cooking alot of my food from scratch. Which is a good thing since it saves on food, but I am doing this more than ever before. When I go to the grocery store and I see an item that i like to have for dinner the wheels start to turn and a voice in the back of my mind says why buy pre made chili mac when you can make it yourself for a whole lot less or I look at biscuits and that voice says in the back of my head "why don't you use some of that flower at home and make your own biscuits". Thanks to that voice I have been saving a little here and a little there, but still need that second job though, and I did apply to be a cook at a local sport / strip bar. The job has perks literally.

Grrrrrr....

Planned on going to the local shooting spot today, but that didn't happen since most of the day was spent with a friend at a local tire shop trying to get some big tires to fit his big truck. Too much work for a set of tires I thought. I remember back in the good ole days which was in the 1990's when you went to a tire shop to get different size tires and rims for your vehicle the tire dude would actually go outside look at the vehicle and do this thing called measuring before ordering the stuff. Now a days they just look in a book and roll the dice and hope for the best. When I pay two grand for the stuff I don't need hope I need results and assurance that the darn things will fit without rubbing. I like the look the tire dude gives me when I ask him to go outside and do some measuring before making that order, but little does he know that by doing that it saves him time and money and me money and piece of mind.

Ruger

So I finally finished my 10/22 Ruger project the other day or should I say finished assembly of the thing. It turned out swell, I used a butt creek barrel (Buttercreek) in stainless, a heavy barrel laminated stock that I got a deal on and topped it off with a BSA scope. I messed with the action a bit to make some things easier to do like closing the bolt without the use of three hands. Later on today I will stick it in the vise and square up the scope to the action then take it out and sight it in. Let you know how all this work and money turns out. Oh did I mention I was at the local gun shop and had the rifle with me to show something to the resident expert when a couple of people wanted to buy it off of me since they could not find a 10/22 to be had, it was like total melt down in that place and all I heard the whole time in there was "what do you mean you are sold out of AK/Ar's". I guess this Obama dude really has the pucker factor going among us gun people.

Routine.

Long day I had today. Got up early so I could go to the rail yard and move locomotives around for awhile, at least they have me working at least two days a week now but still need to find another part time job since harvest is over. After getting home from work I cleaned the old stabbin' cabbin and proceeded to re clean some guns and oil them up good and put some bore butter in the bores since I do not go out shooting that much right now. No gun ranges. You would think that living in the middle of nowhere there would be a shitload of places to shoot to your hearts content, but no not here in eastern Oregon I have to drive like 45 minutes to find a spot where no body will call the po po on me.

What now.

So here I am biting my nails and hoping that Obama does not get elected into office for the sake of one of my hobbies. Speaking of my hobby, I am almost finished building my 10/22 ruger target rifle all it needs is a scope and plinking I will go. I need to dig out my model 1895 Winchester lever gun in .405 and kill some dangerous bowling pins some day, but I will wait till a bunch of us friends get together and make an outing for the day to the local shooting spot. Please if there is somebody looking over me please may Obama not get elected.

rollin in the dough.

If you have been observant I have not posted anything for some time due to the hours I have been working, 17 hour days seven days a week. Good news is that this paycheck will be fat and plenty for gun money and speaking of gun money I just sold a vehicle not for financial reasons, but the parents at whose house I keep it at say I have too many cars so one had to go. Finally I can go pay off and pick up my new model 1895 Winchester in .405 cal. Next on list is a M1 garand.

Tired

Working a new part time job right now and it does not give me time to do anything but I need the cash. I drive truck for fourteen hours a day on a farm right now helping to harvest corn to feed about twenty thousand head of cattle. The piles of corn we are making stand at least four stories tall and about almost a football field in length. The paycheck should be nice and maybe there will be enough for a m1 garand.

Truck drivin' man

Got another part time job to help with the bills. Now instead of working at the Waly mart distribution center I get to drive a big rig around a farm to help with the harvesting of corn. First day was ruff cause I was still getting used to driving a big rig and now I seem to do it naturally. This will help in getting my CDL. Oh and more money for more guns.

Temp worker sucks.

Right now I work for a temp agency part time to make up some lost income because the railroad laid me off. This sucks since I have to put up with crappy jobs and the pay sucks too. While the normal employees make like 18.00 per hour I make 10.00 per hour. You just got to know what crappy job to pick since they are all back breakers. Right now I work in a warehouse and man do I feel it, body aches. The temp agency calls me up on my day off and asks if I want to work as a laborer working with cement, I asked how much since my previous experience with construction taught me how much concrete workers make. The lady said 10.00 per hour and I told her to take a hike.

Found work

Found some temporary work in a warehouse taking stuff out of one box and putting it into another box. As this kind of speed demon work appeals to some to me it not. I have bloodied fingers, back aches as I haven't done this type of work in years. If the Nazis had won the war then this is what they would be doing, this place is definitely the fourth Reich.

Job

Got a job interview this morning. I hope I get this job since I really need the money so I do not end up living in my truck. Must cook a really good breakfast.

Ode to Scruffy

In my dads words this would best describe the former family pet.

Drool and Deals

Ahh it is 0800 time to wake up and enjoy the day. I noticed that when you have no income and are at home all the time you can not think of anything to do that does not require money, but when you are working 60 hours a week you can think of plenty of things that need to get done around the apartment that do not require money to do. Sure wish I had wrote down all things that needed to get done around here, oh well I think it is time to browse the Cimarron gun site and drool over some of their cool stuff.

My dad called me the other day regarding guns and I guess one of his co-workers collects antique firearms (basically whatever he can get through Big Five sporting good store). Father says that his co-worker was wondering where I get all my fireamrs from since I have stuff that he has never seen at the sporting goods store or gun shops in the area. I replied that I order most of them through an aquaintence of mine (my arms dealer) who has a FFL. He then says is it cheaper and of course I said yes if you buy more than one at one time plus the quality of the fireamrs are a lot better than in most stores. Later my father calls back and says his co-worker didn't believe me on the price so I asked him what he pays for a run of the mill 91/30. 189 clams he says. I told him that I purchased two of them and paid 69 clams a piece for mine of course add the fifty for the FFL license (covers both of them) and I still made out like a bandit. Haven't heard from my dads co-worker since, maybe he picked up a shotgun news and looked at the prices in there and got his wheels turning.

Ruger 10/22

A while back I bought a 10/22 ruger carbine. I have been panning to buy one for awhile and the time at that time seemed like the right time to purchase one. They were going up in price so I had to act quick. When I brought it home it sat in the box for quite some time before I took it out and test fired it. It performed really well except that sometimes it did not feed right and that could've been due to the ammo or the magazine I was using. I basically bought this rifle just for the action. Today I was at the local surplus/gunshop place and noticed that they had a laminated stock for a target barrel and a target barrel that comes with a stock sitting in the corner collecting dust. I asked the owner if I bought the barrel would he trade me stocks and he said sure. So in the next few weeks I will go back and make the purchase, since I will be working full time again by then. Now what scope to use?

Maxwell Siding railroad museum/display

Just got back from the Sportsmans wharehouse. Had to purchase me one of those kinetic bullet pullers since I think I have a bad batch of 45-70 that I loaded. I suspect it is bad since when I went to fire a few from that batch I had a few hang fires and one bullet didn't even have enough umph to leave the barrel (what a mess). These were a first attempt at reloading too.

Also, if you are ever in Hermiston, Oregon and like trains as a hobby or just think they are interesting come and see the equipment on display at the Maxwell Siding. It is easy to find just go south on 395 till you get to the intersection of 395 and Highland Ave. (Sharis is just beyond the intersection) take a right onto Highland Ave and cross the tracks and look to your left and you can not miss it. On display are two rotary snowplows one is a diesel the other is steam, the neat thing about the steam one is that is still in operational condition (can not be fired up because of asbestos insulation). There is also the diner car and caboose plus a bunch of other little doo dads that the volunteers can explain to you. This is an all volunteer operation most of the volunteers are railroaders themselves (including me). So come on down and say hi, Maxwell siding is open on most Saturdays from ten til three we sometimes close early so try to get there kind of early and donations are always accepted.

Long live the dog

Time for another weekend roadtrip to go home and see the folks and visit my favorite gun dealer and shoot the breeze with him so to say. Plus yesterday my mother called me and told me that she is putting my dog to sleep today because of a brain tumor that has basically made my dog a vegetable. I think she lived a long a pampered life for a dog I mean ever since she was a puppy she has lived almost her entire life indoors and has never spent a whole night outside, except once when I forgot that I had put her outside to do her "thing" and fell asleep and woke up around eleven o'clock that night remembering that I had left her outside. She was so happy to see me when I opened the door. In 1996 my mom and sisters went to the pet shop to look for a dog I said "do not get a dog yet until you all figure out who is gonna take care of it cause I want nothing to do with it at this time" (I was gearing up for the military at that time). A few hours later they came home with this little black puppy that was on sale for 29.99 evidently not a pure breed, instantly my dad hated the dog and for the next 12 years he continued to hate this dog. It lived a good full and healthy life, she was never mistreated (I cannot say the same for the owners) and was constantly taken care of by my parents since after my sisters graduated from high school the dog had no purpose or room in their life so once again I stepped in and helped to take care of the dog, I was out of the military and had time on my hands. Unknown to me, but seven years earlier the vet had found a tumor and removed it of course it came back and this time with deadly results. Parents say they are going to have her cremated. I would like to spread her ashes on a pile of cow poo since she liked to spend what ever time she could (when ever she would escape from the house) rolling in that stuff. I get a feeling that is not going to happen.

Off to see the unemployment wizard

Today is the day that I set aside for looking for a part time job since technically I am still on call for two days a week for the railroad (they never call). So I follow the yellow brick road to the unemployment office and hang out with other people in the same situation maybe even talk to the scarecrow or somebody who resembles a scarecrow like a tweaker (plenty of those around here). Should be a interesting day, just got to make sure the tin man doesn't jack my hubcaps.

Another day in paradise

Not much going on today just did the usual: take care of business around town, bug the people at the local gun shop, buy some groceries and came home and watched some classic westerns. The last thing I did got me curious about cartridge conversion kits for cap and ball revolvers since I think you can order a cap and ball revolver and it can be delivered to your house without the need for an FFL, I'll check on that to be sure. It would be neat to have something like that then again it might be cheaper to just go to the gun shop and order one from Uberti that is already set up for cartridges since I think cartridge conversion kits could be a little spendy.

Tuco is the man when shopping for a handgun.

Hobby time

Sat down after getting back from my driving adventures today to work on my FW-190 model kit, I have been tinkering with this thing for about three months due to the fact that most of the parts do not fit very well so you basically have to sand everything down or some how find a way to make the part fit right. Just finished putting the landing gear on (what a pain that is since I had to use a 2 part epoxy to glue it on since you can not use regular plastic model glue to glue these parts on cause they are made of metal ). A few more steps and it is ready to get airbrushed.

Ants in the pants

Went down to the job placing place and gave them all my information and so waiting to here back from them, can't wait to see what they come up with also waiting for one of my friends to get back to me on a job driving trucks for a farmer. All this waiting makes me want to break out and go on a road trip to somewhere today, will have to look at a map and see where I want to go and have not been before. Never know I might find a cool gun shop or pawn shop somewhere. I might just drive all the way to the folks house and check up on all my other vehicles I have stored there.

Hot lead

Gettin' ready to go to the local shooting spot and throw around some lead I think I will only take two rifles this time since I don't feel like spending the rest of the afternoon cleaning guns. Will probably take the Steyr M95 since it is my favorite to shoot just kinda of difficult to get ammo for in this town I live in (actually you can get the stuff in this town, but it has to be ordered and the gun shop usually asks for your first born as a deposit).

-That 8x56R use to be 2.50 for a box of ten and now some people are selling it for 12.50 for a box of ten and this is in a two year time frame. Thank god I stocked up.

Livin' the slow life

Did not get much done today, the scamp still has the old six cylinder in it. Got to show my friend how to clean his new Taurus 40 cal handgun and drank some brew in the process. Ice cube said "today was a good day cause I didn't have to use ma ak".

A good day

On my way out the door to go help a friend play shade tree mechanic. Needs to pull a seized up six cylinder out of a 1973 scamp to make room for the 440 big block, this car will be insane. As for my project car which is my 1966 ford f-100 4x4 it sits quietly at my folks house waiting for me to buy a house with a garage or shop down here in my new town so I can finish it. It is all painted up and looks really nice (it better since I have been tinkering with it for a decade). Who knows how today goes I might just break out the 10/22 ruger I bought a few months ago and test it out too.

Chef Pinto bean

Just devoured dinner (not the mouse, haven't heard of or seen in many hours). I got creative and decided to use what I had lying around so I took some breaded chicken patties out of deep freeze and let thaw out. Opened one can of diced tomatoes (seasoned in garlic, basil and oregano) and one tiny can of tomato paste and mixed together in bowl, then I put the chicken patties on a cooking tray and covered each one with the tomato sauce that I mixed in a bowl then topped off each one with graded Parmesan cheese. Cook for like twenty minutes and bada bing you have a decent dinner.

Full of it.

I was watching some stuff on the second amendment on you tube and noticed that you never see the Swiss talking about gun control, Hell they have as many gun ranges as we do golf courses. What I want to know is why some Congressman or senator or somebody in the government all of a sudden cares about my well being. I grew up in almost total poverty, my dad had a good paying job but they took so much out in taxes that his paycheck could not support a family of three kids and my mom had to work long hours too and to mention we could not afford a home of our own (renting sucks). Where were these do good er senators and congressman then? they couldn't get together to lower the taxes or restructure the entire tax system, but hell lets blow tons of money and time on the second amendment because we care about the well being of the public. Be cautious of a Government that says we will take care of you. And why de-arm people like me, do I scare the government.

Tom and Jerry.

Today I woke up in my usual late fashion which is around 0800 since I have no employment yet which hopefully by Monday I will hear some news on a part time job that pays well. Got on the computer and started to surf the net when I heard this noise like what my dog use to make when she was nosing through the trash. I ignored it and then I heard it again and this time when I looked up from the computer a big healthy mouse was staring right back at me from the kitchen as if to say "So, when is breakfast?" I got up and made a B line for that little turd and he just casually slid behind the fridge as I slid into the front of the fridge kinda like those tom and Jerry cartoons I spent the rest of the morning trying to provoke him to come out and sure enough he did, right across the counter top into the stove and I have not seen him again yet. Went to the Wally world and bought a sticky trap and set two of them up, but still no sign of him. I think he is stuck in the stove somewhere and the bad part is that I have to use it in a bit to start cooking dinner, mmmmm that is a tasty mouse.

The wall hanger.

Nothing to do today but hang out around the apartment and do some cleaning of the place, I even shampoo'd the carpet and trust me it really needed it judging by the color of the water that I dumped out. Then it was off to the hobby room and tinker around with a model airplane project I have been working on for three months now (they have become more complicated than I remember).

Later on in the day out came the the gun collection and of course the 303 British which I purchased blindly at a local sporting goods store. I should have done a better inspection on it and the 2 pounds of cosmoline it was covered in should have been a buyer beware type of hint, but all I saw was a piece of history (lend lease rifle produced by Savage). If I remember right I did not even take the bolt out to look down the barrel cause if I did then I would've noticed that the whole barrel was blocked with cosmoline, which would have deterred me from buying it since the condition of the barrel is important to me and also you can look for flaws too (this will be important later). I paid the money for the rifle took it home and started the long process of cleaning it which basically all I did was dismantle the rifle and soak most of the parts in diesel, cleaned the wood which turned out really beautiful (black walnut grain on this rifle is sweet), then reassembled the parts. As I was putting this rifle back together I noticed some nicks and what looked like some type of repairs in the chamber, still did not think anything of it. Finally I scrounged some surplus ammo and went to the local shootin' spot with some friends to test it out. I loaded the magazine with three rounds and proceeded to shoot the first one, it shot and hit the target but when I went to extract the spent cartridge the bolt would not open. After finally getting the bolt open and the case out I loaded and shot it a second time and the same thing happened, Now this caught my attention I inspected the two cases and what I found really made my heart sink. One side of the base of both cases was bulged out and split open, the reason for the bolt being stuck. The cause of this was their is a huge nick in the side of the chamber which allowed the cartridge to basically fire form itself the shape of the nick in the chamber. At least I did not get hurt and this served as a lesson in purchasing mil surp weapons which is basically your heart can not give a better visual inspection than your eyes and use freakin' common sense. This was the first surplus rifle I had purchased so lessons learned on this one helped me with the purchase of the other ones which were not covered in cosmoline, in very good shape and great shooters. I purchased these from SOG through a local gun dealer who gives me the scoop on good collectible rifles and when he does receive them in the mail for me he also does an inspection on them and shows me what to look for to see if they are safe to shoot.

No more sporting good store specials for me for awhile. Now I have to figure out how to fix this expensive wall hanger.

Hurry up and wait.

Today I slept in since there is nothing for me to do employment wise today. Got out of bed around 0930 to the pitter patter sound of rain which is kinda welcomed since the last few days were in the 100's. Moved really slow to the kitchen looked in the fridge for some grub, not any options since the fridge is almost or now is empty. Cooked two hamburger patties, two eggs and threw on top of some chili beans mmmm that is a tasty burger. Maybe later on today I will start pulling the gun collection out one at a time for a good cleaning starting with my M95 Steyr first.

What a day.

Today I found out that I am getting laid off for awhile due to the economy slidin' down the toilet like a turd. Keep positive I tell myself, have been saving money for this type of thing, but still that means no more gun purchases for awhile. That last thing really hurts my feelings. I guess being Laid off will give some extra time to give the gun collection I already have some much needed deep cleaning and maybe take a closer look at my 303 British Lee Enfield and see what it will take to get it back into shape.
